From Farm to Cup: Vancouver's Nusa Coffee to hold forum about Indonesian specialty coffee

The Georgia Straight

When Vancouverite Liza Wajong began importing Indonesian coffee to our city, she eventually decided to open a permanent coffee shop in Kitsilano in 2017. She had told the Georgia Straight in an interview last year that she felt it was the best way to provide cultural context for what she was offering.

Thus, Nusa Coffee, located at 2766 West 4th Avenue, was born.

Since then, she's held several special events, and she has planned an upcoming daylong forum that will help Vancouverites learn more about Indonesian coffee. It's free, and is hosted by Nusa Coffee along with the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre in Vancouver and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia.

Indonesian Specialty Coffee: From Farm to Cup will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 24 at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront (1133 West Hastings Street).

The event will include coffee tastings, a trade show, and a panel discussion.

Panelists will include: Sumatra and Sulawesi coffee farmers from Indonesia's Gayo and Toraja Highlands; Canada-Indonesia Trade and Private Sector Assistance Project's Said F. Baabud; Republica Coffee Roaster's Hiro Tsujimoto, from Vancouver; Los Beans Coffee Roaster's Mike Li, from Vancouver; Trade Facilitation Office Canada coffee consultant Normand Roy; and Speciality Coffee Association of Indonesia's Daroe Handojo.

Prototype Coffee's Matt Johnson, from Vancouver, will moderate the panel.
