Alaa El-Bially, Consul of Egypt Economic and Commercial Affairs in Montreal informed Egypt Today of a new program that will involve bringing in Canadian experts to explain the requirements of exporting to Canada to Egyptian companies. The Egyptian commercial office will also arrange a number of bilateral meetings between Egyptian companies and major Canadian retailers to negotiate export deals.
Canadian Ambassador to Egypt Jess Dutton said that the current funding for the program is 120,000 dollars. He added that his country wants to increase cooperation with the Egyptian business society, especially the small- and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurial projects.
Bially said that the program will be expanded to include most export sectors as the Canadian market is an important one that has great export opportunities. Canada’s annual food stuffs imports amount to some 31 billion dollars, to which Egypt contributes by only 9.4 million.
A delegation of big Egyptian grape exporting companies will be visiting Canada in February. Canada is considered one of the biggest markets importing grapes, with imports standing at 650 million dollars last year.
