Indonesia’s Trade Balance Swings To Deficit In July

Indonesia’s trade balance showed a deficit in July on a surge in imports, data from the Central Statistical Agency showed Tuesday.

The trade deficit came in at $0.27 billion in July. Economists had forecast the surplus to fall to $1.12 billion from June’s initially estimated $1.63 billion surplus.

Exports surged 41.12 percent year-on-year in July, bigger than the expected 35.72 percent growth. Likewise, imports jumped 54.02 percent compared to the forecast of 32.2 percent.

On a monthly basis, exports climbed 16.83 percent and imports advanced 39 percent in July.
