Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) traded 13,927 tonnes of coffee, l2,660 tonnes of sesame and 1,850 tonnes of white pea beans for a total $ 47 million in the month of July 2017.According to a statement ECX circulated on Friday, coffee took the lion’s share of the market contributing 49.01% of the trading volume and 70.96% of the trading value.
Compared to the month of June, the coffee price has increased by 1.39% and the price of sesame has increased by l3.20%.
Export coffee trade dominated the market by controlling market attention with 68.13% of the volume and 69.16 % of the value, followed by Local and Specialty Coffees in row. During the month, 7,841 tonnes of unwashed export coffee had been transacted for $20 million of unwashed origins. Lekempti shined with 32.54% of the volume of the category followed by Jimma.
The trade volume and value of Specialty Coffee has reached I76.l tonnes of coffee and $5.6 million respectively.
During the month, 2,635 tonnes of coffee worth 129 million birr has been traded for local consumption. In the local coffee market category; unwashed took the lead in volume by 68.91%.
In addition, 12,660 tonnes of sesame had been traded for $13.5 million with Humera sesame took higher share of the market scoring 70.74% and 72.52% in terms of volume and value respectively.
