Ministers to attend World Economic Forum Annual Meeting

Tuesday, January 17, 2017 > 16:08:58

(Global Affairs Canada)

The Honourable Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance; the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development; the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade; the Honourable Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board; the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage; and the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, are to attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting from January 17 to 20, 2017.

In an increasingly connected global economy, Canada’s diversity and connections to the world are among its greatest assets—and will prove vital as the government works to grow the middle class and focuses on enhancing the prosperity of Canadians. The 2017 WEF meeting provides an excellent opportunity to reaffirm Canada’s position as an important political and commercial partner, and a destination of choice for investors, before many of the world’s most influential business leaders and decision makers.

At the meeting, the ministers will highlight Canada’s actions to strengthen the middle class and spur long-term economic growth that benefits all Canadians.

The ministers will meet with global business leaders, representatives of civil society and other government representatives to collaborate more closely on sustainable economic growth, inclusive governance and green innovation. The ministers will also promote Canada’s strong record as a reliable and dynamic partner for business, trade and investment.
