Minister Paradis Launches Call for Proposals to Foster Sustainable Economic Growth in HondurasWednesday, April 15, 2015 > 10:00:55
(Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada)
Following the announcement made by Prime Minister Stephen Harper at the Summit of the Americas in Panama on April 10, 2015, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today launched the Promotion of Rural Economic Development in the Dry Corridor of Honduras call for proposals. This call for proposals targets the drought-prone southern region of Honduras, known as the Dry Corridor, to help build the resilience of local farmers and entrepreneurs in that area. This funding support will help create partnerships with civil society and the private sector in providing training and support to these farmers and entrepreneurs to enable them to make a living for themselves and their families in the coming years.
This call for proposals is open to Canadian, international and local organizations to help increase the economic opportunities and well-being of small-scale producers and entrepreneurs, with a focus on women, youth and marginalized groups, in one of the poorest regions in Honduras.
“Canada is committed over the coming years to invest in economic opportunities for rural families to enhance their standard of living and to help them build resilience to recurring droughts,” said Minister Paradis. “This call for proposals will bring together civil society, the private sector and government to create job opportunities in innovative ways in a region of Honduras that continues to suffer from harsh climatic conditions. This call will contribute to fostering sustainable economic growth and builds upon the strong economic relationship Canada has with Honduras.”
