Capitalizing on the Canada-Honduras Free Trade Agreement, and an aim to boost exports of specialty coffees from Honduras to Canada, TFO Canada is taking eight (8) coffee producers on an exporter mission to the Canada Coffee and Tea Show in Toronto from September 24-25, 2017.

The coffee producers include women producers from the Dry Corridor of Honduras, representing four specific rural coffee producing regions - Copan, Opalaca, Montecillos and El Paraíso. Discover why the Canadian market demand for Honduran Coffee has been steadily increasing for the past 3 years. Canadian yearly coffee imports from Honduras where $22.2 million in 2014, $27.5 in 2015 and $29.3 million in 2016 (USD).

The carefully selected companies have been screened for export readiness and all have Organic and Fair Trade certifications, some have UTZ, Rainforest Alliance. I am sure this exciting and reliable new sources of specialty coffees will be of interest for you to evaluate.

Coffee is Honduras number one (1) export to Canada and the world. Presently TFO Canada is implementing a capacity building project that brings Canadian importers, buyers and distributors of coffee in direct contact with small and medium growers and cooperatives from Honduras.

Canadian buyers: it is important to remember this is a commodity that enters Canada free of import duty!

 AMPROCAL from Intibucá

Created by a group of eight women dedicated to coffee production as their main economic activity. By 2016, its membership has grown to 86 women producers. In 2011 AMPROCAL joined FECAFEH and in 2012 received the FLO certification.  Received the fair-trade certification for green coffee as well as organic certification in 2013. Amazing gender equality contribution already very appreciated in European markets.

APROLMA from Intibucá

The Asociación de Productoras Libres de Márcala (APROLMA), was created to improve institutional, organizational and commercial capabilities through the production of specialty coffees and quality products while protecting the human rights and the environment. The Marcala coffee has a very well earned quality position in world markets.

CAFEPSA from El Paraíso

CAFEPSA is made up of 91 small producers from the municipality of El Paraiso. It seeks to access new markets for its coffee and to improve the livelihood of all partner families and to increase productivity in a sustainable way.

CAFESCOR from Copan

Organic high altitude (1,200, 1,700 meters masl) specialty coffee produced in the historically rich region of Copan. The cup profile ranges from 85% to 90% (according to SCAA format). Due to our geographic location, production is SHG (Strictly High Grown) coffee, cultivating different varieties of coffee including: caturra, red-yellow catuhai, bourbon, IHCAFE 90, lempira and parainema.  Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, and UTZ certifications.

COAQUIL from Intibucá

COAQUIL's specialty is organic and fair trade coffees. FLO / Fairtrade certification. It has a productive capacity of 13,000 quintals. Producing Catuai, Lempira, IHCAFE 90, parainema, and típica varieties.

COMMOVEL from Santa Barbara

This Coop has a proven trajectory selling the San Luis Planes Coffee to the Canadian Market. The producers’ traceability is very well implemented with strong data of its 143 producing farms.

PACAYAL from La Paz

General Cup of Pacayal Coffee from the Marcala region is a creamy, soft, sweet, sharp and progressive cup with an intense aftertaste; and citrus characteristics such as sweet orange, pineapple, apple, guava, peach, chocolate and caramel. Botanical varieties include Catuai, carturra, borbon, pacas, typica, parainema, Ihcafe 90, and lempira.

PAOLT from Santa Barbara

Productores Agrícolas Orgánicos La Trinidad, is an organic and Fair Trade Certified coffee producer organization located in Trinidad, Honduras, in the country’s northwest region. The organization represents farmers from nine municipalities in the region. PAOLT, today, assists its 225 small- to medium-sized producers. Also certified in Rainforest Alliance and Coffee Practices.
