Ontario Room, MacDonald Block, 2nd floor, 900 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario
November 16, 2007 – 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
You are invited to join the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Ontario Regional Office of the Trade Commissioners’ Service, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada on Friday, November 16, 2007 for an opportunity to hear new information about business opportunities in the East
African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
To quote a message from the June 2007 World Economic Forum on Africa, “Africa, long neglected by the developed world, is now regarded as increasingly integral to global strategic issues. Lured by vast natural resources, untapped labour and potential energy sources, the industrialized worlds— as well as rising developing economies—have earmarked substantial investment for Africa and strategically engaged
key African nations.”
East African countries have made significant progress towards improving their governance, resulting in the reduction of major trade obstacles, better management of financial obligations and improvement of relations with development partners. Coupled with investment from new sources, such as China,
and increased support from international organizations, such as the World Bank, and bilateral donors, such as the Canadian International Development Agency, resources have become available for increased spending in infrastructure, education and other development priorities.
Regional trade groupings such as COMESA and the East African Union will create new trade opportunities and benefits for Canadian companies. On November 16th, a team of experienced specialists from
organizations including the World Bank, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and the Canadian Council on Africa will deliver the latest information on business opportunities in three East African markets. You will also hear from private sector companies who have been successful exporting and investing in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and are eager to share their experiences with you.
