OECD: Changing Patterns of Trade in Processed Agricultural Products
Wednesday, June 08, 2011 > 09:49:31OECD Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Working Paper No. 47
Pete Liapis
Trade in processed agricultural products, such as chocolates, steaks or wines, has grown quickly between emerging economies, as have exports from emerging to high-income countries. However, trade in these products is still dominated by high-income countries with a revealed comparative advantage in the processed agricultural markets.
This study describes the patterns of trade in these products, examines which countries have a comparative advantage and how this may have changed over time, analyses the level of productivity of countries’ export basket and its contribution to income, and determines whether trade has increased at the extensive or intensive margins.
