Lower prices caused Canadian factory sales to edge down unexpectedly by 0.1% in April from March, but the volume of sales rose 0.4%, Statistics Canada data indicated on Friday.
Despite the slight decrease in April, sales rose in 14 of 21 industries, representing about 60% of manufacturing. Declines in petroleum and coal product, aerospace, and machinery industries were largely offset by gains in most other sectors.
