Kenya: ASK Announces Nairobi International Trade Fair DatesThursday, June 12, 2014 > 09:49:34
The Nairobi 2014 International Trade Fair will be held between September 29 and October 5, the Agricultural Society of Kenya has said.
The society officially announced the dates yesterday at their Jamhuri offices as they launched the trade fair schedule of class's handbook.
Speaking during the launch, Livestock principal secretary Khadijah Kassachon said this year's theme is enhancing technology in agriculture and industry for food security and national growth.
"This year's exhibitions will mainly focus on technology. The schedule of classes we launch today will guide the farmers in making their entries of livestock and farm produce", she said.
Kassachon said the handbook will further provide for veterinary regulations with regards to livestock movement and mandatory vaccinations to be taken before the show.
"The country has received below normal rains, which are affecting livestock across the country. I appeal to farmers to prepare adequately for the show as we expect an increase in the number of exhibitions and exhibits," she said.
Kassachon cited inadequate human capacity, lack of value addition to primary livestock products and poor market accessibility due to inability to meet international market standards arising out of livestock disease challenges in the country as the major challenges the livestock sector is grappling with.
