Canada Beef is holding an information session September 12, 2013, in Mississauga, to provide importers with details of a new levy that will be charged on beef and products containing beef that are imported into Canada. A networking lunch will precede the information session.

If you plan on attending, you are asked to confirm your attendance by contacting Angela Murphy at amurphy@canadabeef.ca or  403-275-5890.

Meeting Details
Location:  Holiday Inn & Suites 2565 Argentia Road, Mississauga, Ontario
 Date:  September 12, 2013
Time:  Networking lunch: 12:00 pm; Information Session: 1:00 pm

Canada Beef plans to hold additional information sessions in Ontario should you not be able to attend. The dates for these sessions will be forwarded when announced.

On June 5, 2013, The Government of Canada published in Canada Gazette Part II an order requiring all importers to pay a levy on beef and products containing beef imported into Canada. Included in the order http://canadagazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p2/2013/2013-06-05/html/sor-dors98-eng.php is the list of HS codes on which the levy will be charged. The levy is to be paid to Canada Beef to support beef research and the promotion of beef consumption in Canada.

Information Session
It is anticipated that Canada Beef will address the following items at the information session.
• Products on which the levy will be charged
• Calculation of the amount that each importer will be invoiced by Canada Beef
• Date collection of the levy will start
• Invoicing and payment process
• Consequences of non payment
• Initiatives which the money will support

Please contact Keith Mussar, V.P. Regulatory Affairs at kmussar@iecanada.com should you have any questions and please also notify Keith, in addition to Canada Beef, if you plan on attending.
