Government of Canada to Repeal Container Size RequirementsMonday, April 02, 2012 > 13:43:33
I.E.Canada has confirmed with the CFIA the intention of the Government of Canada to repeal the container size requirements under the Process Product Regulations over the next three years.
This is a significant win for food importers. I.E.Canada has been advocating for this change for some time, most recently in our submissions to the Canada-U.S. Regulatory Cooperation Council (submissions can be found at https://portal.iecanada.com/mpower/document/download.action?category=8&id=29 and https://portal.iecanada.com/mpower/document/download.action?category=8&id=32).
As you may be aware the Government of Canada announced during the budget, March 29, 2012, that: "The Government will also repeal regulations related to container standards to enable industry to take advantage of new packaging formats and technologies, while removing an unnecessary barrier for the importation of new products from international markets."
The CFIA will be consulting with I.E.Canada members over the coming weeks on the scope of the regulatory amendments that will be required and the implementation plan. Details of the consultation will be circulated to I.E.Canada members when they become available.
