Indonesia seen posting a smaller trade deficit in FebruaryThursday, March 15, 2018 > 11:51:23
Indonesia likely had a trade deficit for the third consecutive month in February as imports surged, a Reuters poll showed on Tuesday.
The median forecast from 16 economists in the poll was for a deficit of $130 million in February. There was a $670 million deficit for January.
Indonesia's central bank has said it expected that there was a trade deficit of $230 million in February.
Import growth was seen at 25.70 percent, a bit slower than the 26.44 percent rise in January.
"Low base, combined with higher commodity prices and strong investment demand, should keep trade growth elevated, amid a small trade deficit," Barclays economists wrote in a note to clients.
