Jordan's investment minister receives Canadian businessmen delegation

Minister of State for Investment Affairs, Muhannad Shehadeh said Tuesday Jordanian-Canadian relations are "deep-rooted", and are developing in all fields, especially economic and trade ones.

Speaking to a delegation of Canadian businessmen representing several investment sectors, Shehadeh noted that Jordan and Canada have signed a free trade agreement, adding that this agreement is first free trade agreement Canada has signed with an Arab country.

This agreement, Shehadeh said, has opened new ways for mutual cooperation, increased Canadian investments in Jordan and promoted visits exchange both at official and private levels.

It also increased the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, as Jordanian exports to the Canadian market in 2016 amounted to a total of $59 million, while Jordanian imports from the Canadian market amounted to $55 million.

He emphasized that Jordan has many investment attractions such as infrastructure, qualified human resources and quality of life, which have contributed to creating an attractive business environment and made the Kingdom an investment destination in the region.

The minister underlined that improving the business environment and the economy's competitiveness are top priorities for the Jordanian government, which has endorsed many economic-related policies in order to achieve these goals.

Economic indicators point to a another recovery in the Kingdom despite surrounding circumstances, Minister Shehadeh said, pointing out that Jordan has advanced by fifteen points on the Doing Business report 2018.

He briefed the delegation on investment opportunities in the Kingdom, and called on Canadian businessmen to invest in Jordan and pledged the government support in this regard.

The delegation members lauded the relations between Canada and Jordan, especially the economic ones, noting that the visit of this delegation, which included representatives of major Canadian companies, aims to identify investment opportunities in the Kingdom and keenness for future cooperation.
