(Sputnik News)

The Canadian government has made reaching a free trade agreement with Ukraine a top priority for the government, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at Canada-Ukraine Business Forum on Monday.

Ukraine and Canada have signed the memorandum on support for Ukrainian exports, trade and investment, the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade said Monday.

The memorandum has been signed at the first Canada-Ukraine business forum held on Monday in Toronto.

"Ultimately, we want to help create stability in Ukraine so that the middle class can grow and thrive," Trudeau stated. "That’s why, under the leadership of our Minister of International Trade Chrystia Freeland, our government has made the signing of Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement a top priority."

Canada Seeks to Enhance Strong Relations With Ukraine

Canada seeks to strengthen its relations with Ukraine, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also stated.

"Canada’s engagement with Ukraine indicates our desire to enhance an already strong relationship with our Ukrainian partners."

The prime minister noted that Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine in the face of Russian "illegal annexation in Crimea," as well as Moscow’s support for "insurgents" in eastern Ukraine.

Trudeau’s first official visit to Ukraine will take place on July 11-12. The prime minister is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.
