Jordan's exports of garments above JOD1bln in 2015Wednesday, March 09, 2016 > 11:02:35
Jordan's exports of garments expanded by 8.7 per cent in 2015 to more than JOD1 billion despite challenges arising from regional upheaval which forced the closure of traditional markets of Jordanian exports.
The U.S. market accounted for a major 90 per cent of the Kingdom's garments' exports, according to a statement by the Jordan Chamber of Industry. The total value of the Kingdom's garments exports amounted to JOD1.02 billion.
Adel Abu Tawileh of the Jordan Chamber of Industry said investments in the garments manufacture sector stand at more than JOD700 million and can go up further if member countries of the Jordanian-European partnership agreement simplify rules of origin.
Abu Tawileh indicated that there are 1,300 garment production facilities in the Kingdom, employing about 70,000 persons.
