The Sri Lankan government, determined to curtail the use of toxic agrochemicals in farming, will launch a national program today with a three-day exhibition and sale of organically produced food items.
This Three-Year National Program named "A Wholesome Agriculture - A Healthy Populace - A Toxin free nation" has been initiated with the intention of preventing the use of highly toxic agrochemicals in farming sector.
The National Program to free the nation from toxins, will be inaugurated today with the opening of the National Fair and Trade Exhibition "Toxin Free Nation" (Vasa Visa Nethi Ratak) under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena at BMICH in Colombo. The exhibition will continue till Tuesday (8th March).
The National Fair and Trade Exhibition will showcase and educate the public on the alternatives that could be used instead of the agrochemicals. Low cost toxin free foods, organic foods, educational conferences, discussions and workshops, organic cultivation techniques agricultural equipment and the organic fertilizers will be the key highlights.
The three-day exhibition and sale, organized by the Presidential Secretariat and the Ministry of Agriculture, will be open for public from 10.00.a.m. - 9.00.p.m. daily free of charge.
