"Product of Canada" and "Made in Canada" Claims Enforcement Guidelines for Non-Food Products Come into Effect July 1, 2010Tuesday, June 01, 2010 > 10:48:12
On December 22, 2009 the Competition Bureau released its Enforcement Guidelines relating to “Product of Canada” and “Made in Canada” Claims (the “Guidelines”) for non-food products. These Guidelines come into force on July 1, 2010 and replace previous guidelines.
I.E.Canada is working with other trade associations that share our concern that Canadian manufacturers, suppliers and retailers will not be prepared to meet the July 1, 2010 deadline to develop a common set of recommendations to the Bureau. Moreover, there are concerns about the lack of clarity of the Guidelines and how they will be applied to products already on store shelves before July 1, 2010. We wish to hear from our members who have concerns about the application and enforcement of these Guidelines.
