Jordan looks to promote economic cooperation with CanadaTuesday, December 08, 2015 > 10:56:24
Maha Ali, Jordan’s minister of industry, trade and supply, discussed with a number of Canadian ministers and officials the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various economic fields. During the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of seizing the opportunities to increase trade, establish investment projects and stimulate the private sector in both countries, Petra reports. Ali pointed to the benefits of the free trade agreement between the two countries, which came into force in early 2012. Jordan is the first Arab country to sign a free trade agreement with Canada. After the pact came into force, trade exchange between the two countries surged to more than $100 million. The trade mission, organised by the Jordanian-Canadian Business Association in collaboration with the Canadian Embassy in Amman, included 12 companies, in addition to representatives from the Amman Chamber of Industry and Amman Chamber of Commerce. It is the first Jordanian trade mission to visit Canada since the pact came into force. The visit comes in the framework of the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, in cooperation with the private sector, to find new export markets for local products and help the national industry enter the markets in countries that have free trade agreements with Jordan.
