Peruvian coffee exports continue to grow, many thanks to the Expo Café Perú says the Ministry of Foreign Trade.
Expo Café Perú consumed the hearts, smells and taste buds of coffee connoisseurs last month at the Casa Prado in Miraflores. Among those coffee fanatics were many foreign businesses looking to get a hand in the market.
The event saw the participation of 38 companies, including national exporters and international buyers from the United States, Canada and Mexico, reports the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
The Ministry estimates that the coffee event produced a worth of approximately US$ 8 million in transactions.
In 2014, exports of coffee increased by 7% and were worth a total of US$ 745 million. Currently, the product counts for 35% of the total agricultural exports.
In the last five years, 229 exporters directed the coffee shipments to 72 distinct markets worldwide. The major markets include Germany, the United States, Belgium, South Korea, and Sweden, among others.
The event organized by National Coffee Board, the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Devida, PromPeru and the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cacao, aims to place Peruvian coffee on the spotlight, not just internationally but in terms of domestic consumption as well.
