The annual Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF) has attracted over 500 foreign and local exhibitors, this number being higher than last year's participation.
The 13 edition of the trade fair will mainly focus on value addition, agro-processing, market diversification, product launches and delivering value to all stakeholders.
"This is with the aim of enhancing business integration through participation by all, both locally and internationally," said NITF branch manager Minnie Njage.
The fair is themed 'Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and Industry for Food Security and National Growth'.
NITF offers opportunities for regional, continental and global exhibitors to display and demonstrate their services and products.
It also offers show visitors an opportunity to meet people from different countries and backgrounds, hence creating a platform for interaction and exchanging of ideas and experiences.
Key displays include new irrigation systems, hydroponics technologies, solar energy and prefabricated house building technology, and various household and beauty products, among others.The livestock section has also attracted several top quality breeders. The exhibitors were judged in 48 different categories, including innovation and invention, most striking display, best government social functions, non-agricultural bases board, agricultural-based statutory board and local manufacturers' goods' stands. Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology scooped four awards, including the best innovation and invention stand.
They had over 20 innovations and inventions, which at either research or ready-for-market stages.
Other winners in various categories include Kenya Ports Authority (best large trade stand), Simlaw Seed Company Ltd (best medium trade stand), Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (best small trade stand) and Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited (best stand exhibiting agricultural and/or earth-moving equipment).
There will be exciting motocross shows by the youth and a diversity of performances by the disciplined forces. The fair will be officially opened on Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
