KAMPALA, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Uganda's coffee exports rose 19 percent in August from the same month last year, the state-run Uganda coffee development Authority (UCDA) said in a report, as the main harvest season got underway in the central and eastern parts of the country.
Bean shipments by the east African country in August totalled 320,297 60-kg bags, up from 268,033 bags exported in the same month last year.
Uganda is Africa's top exporter of coffee, which is one of its major foreign exchange earners.
The UCDA did not cite a specific reason for the rise.
August is the eleventh month of the 2014/15 crop year and so far Uganda has shipped 3.2 million bags of coffee and earned $381 million, the UCDA said.
The regulator forecast shipments in September would rise to 280,000 bags from 207,927 bags exported in the same month of 2014. (Reporting by Elias Biryabarema; Editing by Aaron Maasho and Pravin Char)
