Nigeria: Agencies Begin Review of Export ServicesThursday, August 20, 2015 > 09:05:49
The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat (CommSec) commenced the process leading to the review of the national strategy for the export of professional services in Nigeria.
Speaking at a private sector interactive forum in lagos, yesterday, the Executive Director of NEPC said: "The process is germain to the agency's effort at repositioning the non-oil export sector of the Nigerian economy in line with the current economic realities which makes it imperative that we diversify the economic base of the country."
Awolowo said the current strategy document which was completed in 2010 did not achieve much because there were no action plan and timelines were developed to ensure strict implementation
After the completion of the in-country discussion in 2010, stakeholders identified four priority sectors under a medium term plan which included information and communication, financial services (banking and insurance), educational services and entertainment
Represented by Mr Henry Otowo, the director of product development, Awolowo said the sectors have great potentials to attract investment, increase export and create employment opportunities
The trade adviser to CommSec, Ms Estella Aryada, said: "We need to find out the target market and engage, through the ministry of foreign affairs, to make sure that Nigerian exporters do not face barriers."
