Peru's agricultural exports totaled $1.78 billion during the first five months of this year, up 0.10 percent compared to the same period in 2014, Agriculture Minister Juan Manuel Benites said.
Non-traditional exports reached $1.69 billion in the January-May period, up 2.50 percent from the same period last year, Benites told the official Andina news agency.
Exports of Cavendish valery bananas rose 30 percent, while those of fresh mangoes were up 26 percent; frozen mango sales increased 29 percent; fresh asparagus exports rose 21 percent; sales of fresh avocados grew 10 percent; animal feed exports increased 12 percent; and cacao bean exports rose 12 percent.
Peru posted an agricultural trade surplus of $132 million in the January-May period on exports of $1.78 billion and imports of $1.64 billion, Benites said.
The Andean country shipped agricultural products to 135 countries, with the United States being the main destination, accounting for 25 percent of purchases.
The Netherlands, with 14 percent; Ecuador, with 6 percent; Spain and China, with 5 percent each; and Britain, with 4 percent; rounded out the list.
