Reminder: Import Requirements for Fresh Temperate Fruits Transiting under Bond Through Canada
Revisions were made in August 2008 to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency plant health directive D-95-08: General Import Requirements for Fresh Temperate Fruits from the World. These revisions included the import requirements for in-transit and/or in-bond movement of regulated commodities entering regulated areas within Canada, destined either to the U.S. or other areas of Canada.
In summary, these commodities must either transit under Canada Customs Bond or meet the entry requirements of the regulated area through which they are transiting. Proof of in-bond or in-transit status would be proved by providing CFIA with the completed Canada Border Service Agency form A8A for "in-bond", or A8B for "in-transit" shipments.
The directive can be viewed on our website at: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/protect/dir/d-95-08e.shtml#c4
These requirements were in effect as of August 29, 2008.
** Important note: Import certification exemption while moving under Canada Customs bond does not exempt the requirement to obtain approval from the CFIA Import Service Centres prior to crossing the border. Please ensure all required shipments are submitted to CFIA's Import Service Centres, and that they are in compliance with these import requirements.
