Philippines: International food exhibit generates over P7-B salesTuesday, June 30, 2015 > 10:02:40
Over P7 billion worth of export and retail sales were generated from the recent International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines 2015, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.
Data obtained from the DTI showed total export sales amounted to $159.48 million (P7.2 billion), while retail sales reached P52.59 million from the exhibit held on May 21 to 24 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
IFEX, a biennial event organized by the DTI’s Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions and Department of Agriculture, provides an ideal trading platform for Asia’s food, ingredients and raw materials.
The event had a total of 700 exhibitors, with the bulk or 569 accounted for by local enterprises and the balance or 131 coming from overseas.
Of the 131 international exhibitors, 127 came from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members excluding the Philippines, Hong Kong, Peru and Papua New Guinea.
The four non-APEC exhibitors were from Italy and Portugal.
Since the Philippines is the host of the APEC 2015 meetings, this year’s IFEX was made an official APEC event.
The total number of visitors of the IFEX 2015 reached 13,701.
Trade Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo said the DTI is pleased with the result of the IFEX Philippines 2015 as the event did not only serve as a venue for sourcing food and ingredients in the region but also supported local micro, small and medium enterprises.
Through the event, local enterprises were able to meet with buyers and expand the market for their products.
Among the local products featured in the event are seafood, sugar, coconut, grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables.
