Ministry of Trade disclosed Ethiopia earned more than USD 706 million in the past eight months form the export of oilseeds and pulses.

The plan by the Ministry was to export 520,000 tons of oilseeds and pulses during the stated period. Yet the nation only managed to export 216,000 tons.

Majority of the earning was collected from the export of oilseeds, in particular sesame seeds.

According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, the sector did not perform as expected for the fall in international demand for sesame and soy beans.

Commenting on the development, State Minister for Trade Yakob Yala said an action plan to export 292,000 tons of oilseeds and pulses and earn USD 394.2 million in the remaining four months of the fiscal year is in place.
