Kano State Government said at the weekend that about 4,000 women participated the three-day exhibition for hand made products at the International Trade Fair Complex, Kano.
The exhibition, organised by the Ministry for Women Affairs, was aimed at assisting women, especially rural dwellers, to showcase their hand made products.
Declaring the exhibition opened, the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Dr Binta Jibril, said the exhibition was organised to celebrate achievements of women in the state.
"The women were trained and empowered by the state government, hence the decision to organise the event," she said.
She said the exhibition would enable participants to exchange ideas on how to market their products.
Jibril said the state government would further empower women and youth to make them self-reliant.
Secretary to the State Government, Dr Rabi'u Sulaiman, who represented Governor Rabi'u Kwankwaso, said the government has so far trained 400,000 women and youth in different trades.
He said the training was designed to enable women use the skills acquired to improve their well being.
He urged them to form cooperative groups and register with NAFDAC for them to secure loan from banks to boost their businesses.
Some of the products displayed include edible oil, pomade, beads, local crafts, fish, poultry and locally made perfumes.
