A group of business executives from eight Canadian companies is visiting Cambodia to observe potential sectors, investment laws and business atmosphere.
The group, led by Bangkok-based Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia Philip Calvert, met with dozens of Cambodian businessmen and commerce officials on Thursday. "The trade mission is to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries and to explore possibility for cooperation between Canadian and Cambodian companies," Calvert said.
The ambassador added that most Cambodian products to Canada are garments, textiles and shoes, and the country wanted to see more products from Cambodia, especially agricultural items.
Cambodian Commerce Ministry Secretary of State Ok Bong said Canada is the sixth largest export destination for Cambodia, representing 5.3 percent of all goods Cambodia exports to the world. "Cambodia exports products worth 698 million U.S. dollars to Canada in the past year," he said, most Cambodian items are garments, textiles and footwear.
