Further to the Industry Notice of November 1, 2008 "Revised Fish Import Program Documents", the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is setting up Information Sessions for all Importers of Fish and Seafood Products to assist importers in the  implementation of the strengthened requirements within their current import practices.

The CFIA urges importers to attend these Information Sessions to ensure they understand the new import documents and to ask any questions they may have regarding the implementation of the requirements and processes as outlined in the new import documents.

The information Sessions will be set by local CFIA offices and details regarding the sessions will be sent to each importer prior to the session.

It is strongly recommended that each importer review the updated import documents prior to attending the Information Sessions. Copies of these documents will not be available at the Information Sessions therefore, please ensure you have printed copies for yourself and have reviewed them prior to the session. The new import documents can be found at the following website location:

 www.inspection.gc.ca/english/fssa/fispoi/import/importe.shtml

As of April 1, 2009, all importers must be in full compliance with the requirements as outlined in the new import documents. As of October 1, 2009, only importers who are in compliance with the program's requirements will be eligible for an import license renewal.

If you have any questions on the Information Sessions please contact the regional office in your area using the CFIA's website link at:
