2009 Federal Budget - Tariff Update (1)Friday, January 30, 2009 > 10:55:26
Yesterday's budget contained a Ways and Means Motion that affects 214 tariff items. Unfortunately, the Ways and Means Motion only published these items to the 8th digit level. Equally frustrating is the fact that the implementation date is today, January 28.
The CSCB contacted CBSA immediately and were advised that all statistical subdivisions for the new tariff items are "00". This may change at a later date if Statistics Canada sees a need for new statistical subdivisions.
CBSA expects that, barring any technical problems, the tariff amendments will be updated in their system by end of day today or tomorrow.
We have also asked CBSA if they intend to send an EDI download of these amendments so that members do not have to manually update their systems. We are awaiting the response.
2009 Federal Budget - Tariff Update (2)
Further to our email from this morning regarding the Ways and Means Motion to amend the Customs Tariff, the CBSA intends to make the EDI download of the tariff amendments available on its website tonight, so members do not have to manually update their systems.
The download will be made available at: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commerce/tariff-tarif/menu-eng.html.
