Kenya: Agriculture Products Dominate Imports and Exports At the PortFriday, September 05, 2014 > 10:26:32
AGRICULTURAL related products dominated imports and exports at the Mombasa port last year, KPA chair Danson Mungatana has said.
He said petroleum, oil and lubricants, used to run farm machinery were rated number one imports while fertiliser was rated at position five.
In exports, tea was in the first place, coffee exports at position three while tinned fruits, vegetable and juices were at position four.
Mungatana was speaking at the end of the Mombasa Agricultural Society of Kenya Showground in Mkomani, Mombasa last Sunday.
He said about 93,000 tonnes of tinned fruits, vegetables and juices were exported.
Mungatana urged farmers to continue growing more food and cash crop for export instead of importing them for local consumption.
He said Kenya imports more wheat and rice, which can be grown locally.
