The event will be celebrated for the next three days between today and  Saturday.

The show was held between 1980 and 1997 and went dormant until this year when the Kitui government decided to revive the event.

Governor Julius Malombe's office yesterday said this year's show will be highly interactive and educative.

A statement from Malombe's public relations and communication officer Munyasya Musya said the show will be fashioned into Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair.

The theme will be, Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and Industry for Food Security and Sustainable Growth.

Musya said the revival of the annual event is in recognition of the integral role played by agricultural shows, exhibitions and trade fairs

He said the events are crucial in dissemination of new technologies and practices for growth of agriculture and industrialisation.

"Now, it is no longer a Harambee Show but the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair. This theme underscores the importance of technology in agriculture and industrial development," reads the statement.

Musya said the event will direct and refocus minds, energy and efforts towards enhancing food security and promoting industrialization.

"As a county we are embracing technology and its application geared towards modernising agriculture," he said.

Musya said the show will address new approaches for establishment of cottage industries geared towards value-addition of our agricultural produce and mineral resources.

"The event has drawn more than 50 exhibitors from all sectors of the Kenyan economy. A lot of learning will take place and everyone will benefit from the opportunities created by stakeholder contact and exchange of knowledge," he said.
