Description

The Women’s Innovation Trade Fair (The WITF Showcase) is a pioneering event that will be launched at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on the 6th – 8th of March 2014. The (af)fair is an exciting new venture for South Africa and is based on the highly successful model started in Sweden in the eighties, and taken into several countries around the world since.

The WITF Showcase will provide a vibrant platform for exceptional companies and women in trade, from every level, to showcase their products, roles and contributions to the economy and society. By bringing together both local and international representation of women in business, the event will not only market and promote trade but also reveal achievements and act as a catalyst to network, share skills, dialogue and shift the bar higher, taking women to new heights in becoming more economically influential.

The host welcoming you to The WITF Showcase is: Mhani Gingi, a Non-Governmental Organisation that strives to provide innovative solutions towards alleviating poverty in South Africa. Mhani Gingi – when translated into English from Shangaan – stands for ‘a caring industrious woman who is always looking for lasting solutions to social problems.’ These words ring true of its founding director Lillian Masebenza who has leveraged the supporters of Mhani Gingi to come together and provide The WITF Showcase’s platform. Lillian’s greatest wish is for the platform to provide a thriving community of collaborative interactions towards growing the economy and society at large.

“The Women’s Innovation Trade Fair’s vision is a world in which gender equality, justice and sustainable development are at the heart of everyday life, work and culture so that everyone can develop and maintain a decent and dignified livelihood, ultimately developing to their full potential.“ - Lillian Masebenza

The WITF Showcase initiative is coordinated by Mhani Gingi, in partnership with Lann Development Consultants, Sweden, and is proudly supported by Cape Coast Chamber of Commerce, Spice4Life Consultancy and Southern Cross Conferences, with a strong team of suppliers who excel in their fields of expertise.

Trade Fair Activities
The Women's Innovation Trade Fair is a platform to engage with and showcase women’s projects and innovations, igniting economic possibilities for the women of South Africa. Some of the activities will be:

A Trade Fair for the socially conscious, entrepreneurs, business executives and public sector stakeholders. An exhibition for businesses to showcase products and services aimed specifically at women;

Seminars on self-employment and improving current small businesses for knowledge and skills development;

Workshops on compelling socioeconomic issues with a focus on action-oriented outcomes;

A Creative Cocktail evening to reward and recognise our sponsors, partners and exceptional women across all levels of society.

Trade Fair Theme Conversations
The overarching theme of The WITF Showcase is: ‘Igniting economic opportunities for women.’ However, there are pertinent factors that stand in the way of this outcome, and collaborative dialogue with key experts addressing these issues will be a large focus of the three-day programme’s breakaway rooms:

Gender:
How are companies ensuring that women are given equal representation and opportunity, how are they implementing this and how do their policies deal with Social Entrepreneurship, specifically in Women’s Economic Empowerment?

Economic:
Entrepreneurship and what it takes to thrive.

Social:
Addressing issues around Health/Nutrition, Education, Food Security/Environment, and Social Justice that stand in the way of successful outcome.
