Description

On February 12th, 2013, the Ted Rogers School of Management hosted a Roundtable Discussion to explore partnership opportunities between the Canadian retailing sector and Canada’s international development community.

The roundtable discussion was part of a research project launched by CIDA and led by TFO Canada (www.tfocanada.ca) in partnership with Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Business (tedrogersschool.ca) and The North-South Institute (www.nsi-ins.ca). The project’s main objective is to examine examples of private-public partnership initiatives: projects which improve supplier capacity to provide high quality products demanded by Western consumers while at the same time contributing to economic growth and improved livelihoods for suppliers and their communities in the developing world.

Leaders in procurement, marketing and corporate social responsibility from major Canadian retailers; Canadian NGOs actively involved in private sector development and Senior officials from the Canadian International Development Agency had the opportunity to participate in the round table and share information on best practices and case studies of international retailers engaged in public-private partnerships and challenges in sustainable and responsible sourcing from developing and emerging markets. The round table was an occasion to introduce procurement and sustainability leaders from Canadian retailers to potential partners for such initiatives, including CIDA and NGOs.
