Description

The CCA presents a luncheon event:
"Brazil on the Rise: What Comes Next? Thinking About Post-Lula Brazil."

On October 31, Brazilians will elect a new president. With the world’s eighth largest economy, energy independence and the largest oil field discovery in the last century, Brazil has arrived as a major player on the world stage. How will the election results affect the economic and political program of the world's eighth largest economy? What does this mean for Canada?

Friday October 29, 2010
12:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

KPMG
Bay Adelaide Centre, Suite 4600
333 Bay Street, Toronto, ON

Known for his sharp reporting and spats with current President Lula de Silva, one review of his Portuguese language book on Brazil, published earlier this year, said "Rohter knows Brazil better than many Brazilians." He is widely considered the top expert on Brazil. Currently he is the culture reporter for The New York Times. He lives in Hoboken, NJ.

Moderator: Ed Dosman, International and Security Studies, York University Senior Research Fellow. Ed teaches the Latin America Regions seminar in the IMBA Program at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto. Educated at Oxford and Harvard University, previous appointments include Co-Director of the Canada-Mexico Dialogue, founding Executive Director of FOCAL (Canadian Foundation of the Americas) in Ottawa, Board Member of the Canadian Council of the Americas, the Government of Brazil has awarded him the Ordem do Rio Branco for his contribution to Canadian-Brazilian relations.
