Description

Don't forget to register for I.E.Canada's 17th Annual Conference on “Emerging Issues in Customs”. This conference is scheduled from April 21-23, 2008 at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel located at 5875 Airport Road.
Panel Session: Simplifying Your Dealing with Customs – The Business Simplification Initiative & Broker Licensing and Account Payments and Security
April 23, 2008
10:30 am - 11:30 am
In its 2007 budget, the federal government announced a paper burden reduction initiative. The goal of this initiative is not only to reduce the amount of paper, but to actually reduce the demands on business. I.E.Canada serves on a working group, co-chaired by CBSA and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. This working group is identifying customs processes that can be simplified or eliminated. In a related initiative, CBSA is engaged in a broker licensing and account security review in consultation with importers, through I.E.Canada, and brokers. Some of the issues being considered include reducing the administrative burden associated with payment of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on importation and the direct payment option for importers and the future direction for payment of duties and taxes and the posting of security. In this session you will learn about the status and latest proposals from both these initiatives.
Moderator:
Glen Perry, Customs Compliance & Regulatory Trade Advisor, Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited

Panel Members:
Mark Cluthe, Director, Business Simplification Initiative, CBSA
Joy Aldous, Director, Licensing, Export and Accounting Policy, CBSA
Corinne Pohlmann, VP, National Affairs, Canadian Federation of Independent Business
