Formation of a Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA)

We hope that you will find this guide of useful information practical for the inaugural meeting of the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA), to be held at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston, Jamaica on November 20, 2007.
Information on the agenda for this event will be e-mailed to you in due course.
During the period 28-30 June 2004, the Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) in the region convened a meeting to discuss the challenges faced by national IPAs in the current global environment. Consensus was sought on the potential benefits that could be derived from the formation of a Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA). It was noted that a regional association could facilitate collaboration among IPAs on issues related to image building, market intelligence, sector profiling, technical assistance, capacity building, funding and information management, among others. It was agreed that the resolution of many of these needs could be aided through the activities of a Regional Association of IPAs.
With the assistance of the Centre for the Development of Enterprise (CDE) and PROINVEST, a project has been launched, which will culminate in the formation of CAIPA. The project is being managed by the Jamaica Trade & Invest (JTI/JAMPRO), which represents the CDE in Jamaica.
To successfully implement this task, two consultants have been commissioned to undertake the following:
The completion of a business plan for CAIPA, a work programme for the organization, as well as a sponsorship programme, that will allow for the attraction of funding for up to 3 years, and,
The completion of statutes for CAIPA.
As a culmination to this aspect of the project, the JTI is arranging an inaugural meeting of all the investment promotion agencies in the region. This meeting will take place on 20 November 2007 in Jamaica with the aim of:-
Reviewing and accepting the documents prepared by the consultants,
Selecting the Board, President and Executive team for CAIPA and,
Accepting the membership of the organization.
Venue of the event
The inaugural meeting will take place at the Jamaica Conference Centre, 14-20 Port Royal Street, Kingston, Jamaica.
The meeting will have a plenary room and rooms for group work with the basic equipments. We will also have a service of simultaneous interpretation (Spanish-English, English-Spanish) only during the plenary meeting. 
Lunch, as well as full coffee break services will be offered throughout the meeting.
Each participant will be in charge of buying his ticket and booking the hotel.
The costs of participation, that is, travel and accommodation, will be defrayed by funding provided under this project by the CDE. Please note that air travel is economic class and per diem is provided for no more than two (2) nights.
For your comfort, some rooms have been reserved at the Knutsford Court Hotel, Kingston for the period November 19-21. Each participant will be in charge of buying his ticket and booking the hotel with his own credit card. Upon arrival and presentation of ticket stubs or boarding passes, a reimbursement will be made to you for international travel.
Per Diem to cover accommodation, meals, local travel and sundry expenses will also be provided upon arrival.
