Project Manager

Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) Canada is a non-profit organisation that confronts the challenge of global poverty by promoting sustainable economic development through export information, advice and contact. We improve lives through facilitating sustainable international trade opportunities for small and medium enterprises in developing countries

Currently Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO Canada) has a number of projects and funding relationships geared towards trade support and capacity building in Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa.  With our experience and history in supporting developing countries across the globe, opportunities exist to work on other meaningful projects that are aligned to our organization’s mission.

TFO Canada is currently recruiting for a new full-time Project Manager position located in Ottawa. Reporting to and working closely with the Director, Program Development and Partnerships, the Project Manager will:

1.  Perform program planning and implementation through ongoing communications with donors and implementing partners/consultants of TFO Canada’s trade development projects/programs. 
2.  Manage strategic partnerships and business development activities, which includes the preparation of new project/program proposals to potential donors.
3.  Develop project budgets and monitor these budgets during program implementation.
4.  Prepare periodic project or program results-based reports for donor(s)
5.  Ensure that appropriate project records are maintained to provide a sound basis for project tracking, reporting and follow up, or review of program activities and results, including external program audits.
6.   Support the Director, Program Development and Partnerships in:


•    Maintaining relationships with implementing partners/donors and trade support institutions (business/exporters associations, chambers of commerce, bi-lateral chambers, Canada-based trade representatives of developing countries etc.).
•    Conducting program planning and needs assessment missions in selected partner countries.
•    Developing performance measurement frameworks to support project implementation.

Qualifications
Requirements
1. 5 years of experience in project management/implementation, including planning, budgeting, procurement and contracting of external service providers, monitoring, results based reporting and impact measurement.
2. At least 3 years of combined experience in international development and/or international trade (trade development or promotion, export marketing, importing/sourcing and/or providing trade development services for exporters etc.) that include:


•    Successful track record in preparation of project or program proposals for potential donors.
•    Strong ability to manage stakeholder (donors, partners) relations (including donor reporting).
•    Relevant work experience in developing countries.

3. Relevant university degree, preferably at the Master’s level.
4. Fluency (oral and written) in English.
5. Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills, including report-writing.
6. Excellent computer application skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as some experience working with database applications.
7. Ability to travel internationally (up to 4-8 weeks per year).
Desirable
1. Working knowledge of Spanish and French 
2. CAPM/PMP or CITP designation.

TFO CANADA - REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL
TRAINING DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT-Processed Foods
PROJECT:  IMPROVING ECUADORIAN SME’S EXPORT READINESS TO ACCESS INTO THE CANADIAN MARKET


TFO Canada (Trade Facilitation Office Canada), a non-government non-profit organization, funded by Global Affairs Canada seeks an individual to serve as a “Training Development Consultant” to work closely with the Institute for Export and Investment Promotion PRO ECUADOR and the Ecuadorian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil to:

  1. Develop training material and delivery of two (2) technical training sessions in Ecuador regarding the Canadian market and its main characteristics as quality standards, labelling regulation, international certifications, market trends, and distribution channels, among others topics focused on one of the prioritized sectors of the Project: Processed Foods.

A detailed Terms of Reference for this role as well as background on this project and its objectives is in the enclosed Annex.

TFO Canada is inviting interested and pre-qualified specialist in Processed Foods to submit a proposal to serve in this training development consultancy. Proposal should be submitted no later than August 31th 2017 and should include the following elements:

  1. A presentation of the individual/specialist making the proposal highlighting their relevant experience and current activities which demonstrate their capacity to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. The presentation should include a current C.V. of the individual making the proposal; if the proposal is made by a firm, the CV of the principal advisor should be provided.
  2. A 1-2 page outline of a preliminary work plan that the proponent would likely use to work along with the Institute for Export and Investment Promotion PRO ECUADOR and the Ecuadorian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil
  3. A compensation proposal which does not exceed, in total, the budgetary parameters provided in the terms of reference.
  4. Any other changes that the proponent would like to suggest and/or would require to the Terms of Reference for training development consultant resented below.

Calling experts on the Canadian import market!

Join our experts in trade roster for exciting new opportunities providing access to companies from developing countries to the Canadian market
TFO Canada is currently seeking to expand its roster of highly qualified and experienced consultants we call TFO Associates.  We are inviting experts on the Canadian market and export products to submit a CV by email to tfocrc@tfocanada.ca.  Along with completing this application form highlighting your experience.

To join the TFO Canada Associates' roster, consultants should have at least 7 years of experience in a relevant field and, ideally, some previous experience applying technical skills in the context of a developing country, in one or more of the following areas:

  • Marketing/branding and market entry for SMEs in Canada
  • Market Research (including writing skills) 
  • Product development process (including product adaptation for export competitiveness)
  • Presentation skills (addressing sector specific Canadian market overview and market entry requirements; typically for seminars/workshops aimed at developing countries exporter audience)
  • SME Exporters Need Assessment/Market Validation for the Canadian Market Entry
  • Organizing targeted B2B meetings with Canadian importers in specific product lines (part of TFO Canada’s Trade Mission Activities: importer identification and recruitment)
